Caller ID only when headset is connected

Post by ralph7 on Sun Jul 17, 2016 11:20 am

Is it possible to have Caller ID enabled only when a headset is connected to device? I don't want to hear it on phone speaker.

Only if you don't use TTS for anything else.

CallerId uses Text To Speech.

You can use the SoundAbout TTS and set the TTS media audio to "Wired headphones" or "Wired Headset".

This way the Caller id will only go through a wired headset.

If you don't want to disturb others, you can set the "Alert behavior" / "Caller Id Alert" / "Alert Type" to Ring. This will respect the vibrate/silent setting on your phone and won't play the caller Id if your phone is in silent or vibrate mode.

If you want the callerId through the headset but don't want to disturb others with the ring, you can set the "Alert behavior" / "Caller Id Alert" / "Alert Type" to Media. This will respect the vibrate/silent setting on your phone but will play the caller Id through the wired headset.

To set SoundAbout TTS:

1] Restart phone after installing new SoundAbout Beta
2] Open SoundAbout
3] Set "Media audio" to "Let app decide"
4] Click on "Text-To-Speech behavior"
5] Set your (Media Output) setting to (Wired Headphones) or (Wired Headset with mic).
6] You won't need the delay setting for wired headset.
7] You can leave the max utterance can be unlimited.
8] Click on "Android TTS Settings" to choose TTS engine. Click and choose SoundAbout TTS.
9] Click BACK button
10] Click on "SoundAbout TTS Engine" (this could be done in screen from #4 as well). If prompted by android to use ONCE or ALWAYS, use SoundAbout TTS as ALWAYS
11] For the the internal SoundAbout TTS "TTS Engine", choose the internal TTS engine you want. I use (Google TTS) or (IVONA Text-to-Speech HQ)
12] Click BACK button
13] You can click on "Android TTS Settings" again. Notice the SoundAbout TTS has a settings icon next to it. If you click on that, you can change languages....etc. You can even change the real "TTS engine" from #8
