Configuring for Parrot CK 3100 and Android 6.0.1

Post by kconover on Sun May 08, 2016 6:41 pm

I have a Parrot CK 3100 and trying to get it to work with a new Android 6.0.1 (Marshmallow) Samsung Galaxy S7. It worked fine with my older android phones, both for doing Google Now (Gnow) calling and getting Google Maps directions over the handsfree kit. It has its own mike and is wired into the car speakers.

I want to be able to:

1. Press the green button on the handsfree kit, hear a beep over the car speakers, say "Call Charlie Able Baker at home" and hear a second double bedeep over the speakers, then "Calling Charlie Able Baker at home"; and then be able to conduct my phone conversation over the handsfree mike and car speakers.

2. Press the green button on the handsfree kit, hear a beep over the car speakers, say "Navigate home" and hear a second double bedeep, and then be able to hear Google Map directions over the handsfree mike and car speakers.

There is a menu that pops up on the phone the first time you press the green button on the handsfree kit, asking what app you want to use to handle this. (I was able to get to this menu again by installing BT Gnow, even though I had to deinstall it as it made SoundAbout freeze my screen.) When you select an option (I selected Google) it says you can change this setting in Default Applications. Is this the same as the setting in Settings > Applications > Default Applications > Phone assistance app > Phone assistance app [sic: yes there are two levels with the same title] > (press on the left side of this item, pressing on the gear gets another menu)? I'm pretty sure it is.

Is there any reason to pick Google Now vs. SoundAbout?

Seems to work the same as far as I can tell. Whichever one I pick, the beeps and the "Calling Charlie Able Baker at home" comes out of the handsfree speakers.

And, though I tried to set the settings as http://soundabout.userboard.net/t202-navigation-text-to-speech-audio-to-various-outputs-bluetooth-mono-in-car , the Google Maps directions still come from the phone, not the handsfree wire to the car speakers.

After I finish those settings, I get a popup "Complete action using: Google Text to speech Engine, SoundAbout, or Samsung Text-to-speech engine." I pick SoundAbout. It says "Default app selected. To change your default app settings, go to Settings > Appplications > Default applications." OK.

I really wanted to choose Google, but I followed instructions and selected SoundAbout. Perhaps this allows SoundAbout to tweak more things, but it still sounds the same as Google Maps ever did. And when I go to SoundAbout > Text-to-speech behavior > SoundAbout TTS Engine it's set to Google Text-to-speech Engine so perhaps that explains why it sounds precisely the same.

I was trying to figure out what settings to

(1) get the Google Now beeps and the "Calling Charlie Abel Baker at home" to come out of the car (handsfree) speaker, and
(2) get the Google Maps directions to come out of the car (handsfree) speaker.

Any assistance welcomed.

1] You can use the SoundAbout Voice Search Icon to do that.
Directions here:

2] Google changed Maps so that it no loner uses the default Android Text to speech engine.  This means that playing the directions over the Bluetooth mono phone channel is now limited to setting Media Audio to "Bluetooth (mono) (dynamic)".
The problem is that this setting takes two seconds to connect so you lose some instructions.  With text to speech this can be controlled.

Other apps still work really well with SoundAbout TTS.  I use CoPilot.

The directions are here:

For #1, I configured as per the instructions in http://soundabout.userboard.net/t708-soundabout-voice-searches-bluetooth-hands-free. However, even after reading the instructions in I'm afraid I'm clueless how to create a ""Soundabout Voice Search" Shortcut/icon." Perhaps you could add to that post the way to do this? Thanks very much.

You just go into the app list and drag the "SoundAbout Voice Search" to your home screen. It is an icon of a green microphone.

I updated the instructions

Thanks for updating the instructions. I dragged the icon to the home screen. If I press the button on the home screen, and say "Call Charlie Able Baker at home" then I hear "Calling Charlie Able Baker at home" and the phone call goes through. However:

A. The phone's microphone, not the Bluetooth handsfree microphone, is listening.
B. Even though the SoundAbout setting for "Phone call audio" is set to "Bluetooth (mono)", the phone call uses the phone's ear speaker, and pressing the Speaker icon on the phone's dialer screen doesn't even make the call use the phone's main speaker for audio.
C. If I press the green button on the Parrot CK3100 handsfree kit to initiate a call, nothing happens.

With my prior phone, I had used an app called BTGnow to assign the green Bluetooth handsfree to dial Google Now. I installed this and then tried pressing the green button.  I was given a choice of what this button triggers, and picked SoundAbout. Once I did this, the green button triggered Google Now via SoundAbout, it was listening via the Bluetooth handsfree microphone, the beep and the "Calling Charlie Able Baker at home" and the bedeep all came through the bluetooth handsfree to the car speakers. Progress!

But the phone call audio still came through the phone itself. Stalled again.

More help would be appreciated.

I found some issues where doing a "SoundAbout Voice Search", using Bluetooth (mono) would cause the phone to play audio out of the earpiece afterward.

I've fixed this in the current Beta.

Can you try the latest Beta from here and restart your phone:
