SoundAbout Service

Post by aquabel on Fri Feb 21, 2014 6:51 am

What of this option / Turn service: "On (Foreground)", "On (Auto Restart)", "On (Stoppable)" / is the best and what is the different between this option?

I have Droid 4 with Android 4.3.1 and I want to stop detect wired headphones.

Thanks for your help.

1) On (Foreground) will not allow the service to be killed by Android. Android 4.3+ forces a notification when this is done, so the "Notification status bar" setting gets disabled for Android 4.3+. The latest Beta gets around that issue.
The Betas are located here:
http://soundabout.userboard.net/f8-download-beta-versions

2) On (Auto Restart) is the default. It should be OK for what you need. It won't cause the constant notification in Android 4.3+. This setting will just turn the service back on when Android kills it, but there is a quick interruption.

3) On (Stoppable) will cause the service to stay stopped when killed by Android. This will cause the functionality you want to no longer work.

Hello, thanks for your reply. Now I am using the On - Foreground. I have not any problem with icon in status bar. So if the Foreground is the surrest I will use it.

I have a two more question for you.

1) I set IGNORE WIRED HEADSET and try to play music in Appolo player. Phone playing from speaker, but when I connect the headphone (withnout microphone), phone play for 1 - 2 second from headphone and then back to speaker. Is this ok?

2) I read here http://soundabout.userboard.net/t13-main-speaker-ear-speaker-and-or-microphone-not-working ... "Many phones, like mine, are having an issue where the phone "thinks" a headset is plugged when it is not (or vice versa).  This can cause the phone to shut off one of all of the speakers and possibly the microphone as well. "

My problem is that sometimes the microphone is cut during the call. Its mean that other side dont hear me but I hear everything. It is possible that phone detect only fake microphone (not headset) or this is inposible and you ever does not see this situation? BTW: This problem hapen only sometimes. Sometimes is all ok and sometimes not. Can be this problem (only sometimes) hapened by the fake detect of microphone?

Thank you.

1) This may be because Appolo player has its own code that detect the headset being plugged in and plays through the headset. SoundAbout also detects the headset being plugged in and switches the audio back. Unfortunately, SoundAbout can't prevent Appolo from detecting the headset.

2) You issue may be that the phone moves and the headset jack moves slightly causing the microphone part of the jack (the very tip) to not connect to the inside of the headset jack hole. This would be like cutting the microphone cable so that the connection is broken.

Issues with wired headset microphones are mentioned here:
http://soundabout.userboard.net/t20-wired-headset-microphone-not-working

I just uploaded the Beta version the other day.

The latest Beta will always run in Foreground but let you turn OFF the status bar notifications.

There are also new Alert/notification/ringer settings.

If you already have SoundAbout installed and you want to install the Beta, first go into phone settings, Manage apps, find SoundAbout and click it. Click Clear cache, clear data, force stop and un-install. Then install the new Beta fresh. I also usually restart the phone, just to start the services fresh as well.

The beta is here:

That's strange that only the microphone is cut off. Usually, if the phone thinks a headset is plugged, when it is not, it won't just be the microphone.

It usually cuts off the "earpiece speaker" and also the microphone. I wonder if there could be a loose connection.

I've read similar issues with the MotoX:

Hi, I have just purchased the Pro version. Well.... SoundAbout is not working for me yet and even does not work at least as the other apps. But let me start here.

The colleague above said that an icon is at the status bar when we choose the foreground.
His words:"Now I am using the On - Foreground. I have not any problem with icon in status bar."

Well, in my S3 mini, there is not any icon in the status bar... this drives me crazy, and I came here to suggest you to put an icon in the status bar because I dont know if your app is running or not. As I cannot reproduce the partial sucess of other apps, it seems that soundabout is not running on my phone.
How can I confirm that it is running or not ?

I've change the way the status bar notification works in the latest Beta version.

You can download it from this section:
http://soundabout.userboard.net/f8-download-beta-versions

After installing, and restarting the phone, see if there is a SoundAbout notification in the status bar.
