samsung s4

Post by phoenixcar on Fri Oct 18, 2013 12:20 am

Like many people, I was surprised at how the s4 handles Bluetooth in my car (2008 bmw).

I use the s4 to stream music thru the headphone jack to the aux jack. As you said, I cannot receive or make phone calls with that scenario. I was very grateful to find your program, as it's been noted to help most people.

However, I used both the google play version and the new beta, and can't get it working right. On default settings, I can make phone calls as it transfers Bluetooth correctly. But, when I receive a call, I get the ringing on the Bluetooth, but I can get no audio, and the caller doesn't hear me either.

I have done multiple setting changes trying to force it, and haven't had any luck. There have been a few random instances when I have heard the call, when the car says the Bluetooth is disconnected though I hear the car. And, when that does happen, it then doesn't work for normal situations (when no jack is connected). And, this is usually short lived, as it stops working. Though, outgoing calls always works well.

Do you have any ideas, or a preferred setting for this situation.

Thank you

When you receive a call to the car, how do you answer? Do you click on ANSWER from the phone or do you press a button in the car to answer? I know when a headset cable is connected, along with Bluetooth, the answer has to be done from a button in the car, or on a the Bluetooth device.

Also, I just uploaded another version here:

I think I figured it out. I tried the beta, and yes I did answer from the car. That didn't work for incoming calls.

But, then I turned off 'voice control' on the s4, and it's working perfectly now. I guess it interferes somehow.

Wonder if you could get them to co-exist in a future version.

But, thank you for the program, and I will be buying the full version..

OK, thanks.

That setting appears to turn on voice recognition while the phone is ringing.

I don't see why it would interfere. I could see the voice control not working, but interfering with a Bluetooth connection for a phone call is strange.

If you un-install SoundAbout does the voice command to answer the phone call go through the Bluetooth microphone or through the phone built-in microphone?

I tried it on my wife's phone (same exact phone).

If the headphone jack is plugged in voice control doesn't work at all. You have to answer manually, and if I answer thru the car or from the phone, there is no audio (if soundabout is not installed).

So using Voice control (without SoundAbout) doesn't really work anyway?

Voice Control (without SoundAbout) doesn't work with headphones/headset and kills the audio when using Bluetooth?

Yes, voice control does not work with headphone in place.

It does work without headphones, though not very well. As you said, you have to yell to get it to work. Easier just to touch the screen.

OK, I put a newer Beta version out there. One thing to remember, is that on a lot of newer phones, the manufacturer phone application may behave differently. A lot of them will try to use the headset, if it is plugged in, regardless of SoundAbout trying to force otherwise. The only way around this is to answer the phone call with the Bluetooth headset "answer" button, or the car's "answer" button.
